Getting Alone With God
In Mark 1:35 we are told that very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up and went off to a “solitary place where he prayed.” Jesus knew that he first needed to be with his heavenly Father, in order to do the work of his heavenly Father. Now, if Jesus needed to get alone with God, how much more do you and I. Getting alone with God each day may be the biggest spiritual battle you will face each day. Mark my word, the Enemy (Satan) will do everything he can to keep you from spending time in prayer and Bible reading because he knows that when you get in tune with your heavenly Father, you are a greater threat to him.
Your Spiritual Food
The other day I went to put some toast in the toaster and went about the kitchen preparing the other part of my breakfast. After 5 minutes of waiting for my toast to pop up I realized that there was no heat coming from the toaster. The cause? I hadn’t plugged the thing in! Of course, nothing was happening. Sometimes in our spiritual life, the same thing can happen. We aren’t plugged into the life of the Spirit and therefore we aren’t tuned into our Father in heaven. As a result, nothing is happening. We are static. We have little “heat” for God. Brothers and sisters, the upward calling of God in your life can only be realized by getting alone with the Lord. That’s where it all begins. Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Getting alone with God is your spiritual food for the day. It’s your daily sustenance. It’s that important.
Lord it is my prayer that everyone reading this will be given a new spark and hunger to get alone with you today. May we all experience the joy of spending time with you. In Jesus name. Amen.
